Warthog, watercolor, 2001

     While living in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with my sister for a summer, I was working on a childrens’ book about a lion named Ryan. I was experimenting with watercolors and with characters. I drew all the animals I sensed might be among Ryan’s cohorts: giraffes, monkeys, zebras, and, of course, warthogs.
