Crooked Man scribbles, 2011

Scribbles like these are generally where ideas are born for me, whether it’s new characters, stories, or anything else.  I try to draw, or at least scribble something, every day, but I often have long dry spells. Although many of my sketch books are filled with gradual creations of finished illustrations, the freedom of random scribbles like these are immensely satisfying. There’s a bit of a jungle feeling here for me, with lots of stuff to pick from.

I woke up today with my leg in pain, and couldn’t go back to sleep. Reluctantly got up, and went for a walk, trying out my gnarled walking stick. It makes me feel old. I feel crooked. Gnarled stick, gnarly mood, thus: the Crooked Man scribbles.
