Grass Roots, 1991

Grass Roots was one of my first published cartoon strips. It ran in Ohio University’s The Post in 1991. I created the strip during my summer spent on Isle Royale with J.
(Check out my blog’s  first post: Isle Royale, and also Copper Harbor, and a few others.) I was a budding environmental activist.
Jimmy the Marmot was a character who first appeared in the summer of 1989 (Hibble, Pibble, and Sibble go West). A game the three of us played before going to sleep in the tent was to tell a story that each of us created by alternating story-teller every sentence. The only rules were that we each got exactly one sentence to add to the story, and that we had to go along with wherever the story took us. From those nights of story-telling, Jimmy the Marmot was born.
